An eastern North Carolina SRO stabbed with a pen at a basketball game is back on the job

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has revealed the name of the school resource officer stabbed with a pen at a Friday night basketball game.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has revealed the name of the school resource officer stabbed with a pen at a Friday night basketball game.

The sheriff’s office told WITN TV that Deputy Kelly Tate needed a stitch and is now back on the job.

County Sheriff Johnny Barnes said there were at least two fights between the Washington County High School cheerleaders during the game, with family members getting involved later.

According to Washington County Schools, the game was postponed and will be rescheduled without spectators.

Kelly Batchelor hails from the small crossroads community of Cabin in Duplin County in Eastern North Carolina. Since 1989 Kelly has been actively employed in radio.
