The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is increasing hiring to cut down on wait times at local offices.
The division added 43 new employees in December. This is on top of the 52 who were hired back in June.
DMV commissioner Wayne Goodwin says increased hiring could translate to shorter lines for North Carolinians. He explained that staffing shortages have impacted service at local offices this year, and also admitted that the recent hires wouldn’t fix the problem entirely.
To increase recruitment, officials upped salaries for new driver’s license examiners and gave existing employees raises. The division also recently implemented hiring and retention bonuses.
Each new examiner must complete a five week training program before joining offices in need. Job postings can be found on the DMV’s website.
