A North Carolina deputy was killed while investigating a business robbery early Friday morning.
Cumberland County Sheriff Ennis Wright said deputies were investigating a robbery on Gillespie Street and were walking back after tracking the area with their K-9 partners when one of them was hit by a vehicle.
Wright said the driver left the scene but was found later a short distance away.
The injured deputy died at the hospital.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and State Highway Patrol are investigating.
