President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were in North Carolina yesterday to celebrate Thanksgiving with service members and military families.
They attended a Friendsgiving dinner at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, prepared by celebrity Chef Robert Irvine and members of the Robert Irvine Foundation.
Biden said, "America has a lot of responsibilities but only one sacred responsibility - to equip those we send into harm's way and care for them and their families when they come home."
He also acknowledged the spouses, children and other family members of the Marines, saying, “The American people have no idea the sacrifices you make.”
Earlier in the day, Biden pardoned two turkeys named Chocolate and Chip, who were hatched at Circle S Ranch in Monroe.
The birds were taken to the White House over the weekend to continue the 75-year tradition of the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation.
The pardon spares the turkeys from becoming Thanksgiving dinner, and they will live out their lives at the North Carolina State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
