A Narcan vending machine is now operational in the Magistrate's Office lobby at the Pitt County Detention Center in Greenville.
The Narcan is free and people who come to get Narcan do not have to interact with jail staff.
The goal is to help those struggling with opioid addiction by providing a life-saving medicine that can reverse an overdose.
Pitt County is now one of five counties in North Carolina to get one of these machines. Wilkes, Buncombe, Forsyth, and Cumberland counties also have them.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office became the first law enforcement agency in North Carolina to equip its patrol cars with Naloxone in 2014.
