Grants open for funding beach, shoreline and water management projects in NC coastal communities

Officials say beach, shoreline, and water management projects will receive priority. They could include, but aren’t limited to, efforts focused on coastal resources or issues, improvements in intergovernmental coordination, targeted research or studies, the development of local ordinances, and expanded education and outreach efforts.

The N.C. Division of Coastal Management is accepting applications for grants for local government planning and management projects for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

Local governments in the 20-county coastal area are invited to apply for funding for projects that will be ready to begin Dec. 1 and to be completed by next June.

Officials say beach, shoreline, and water management projects will receive priority. They could include, but aren’t limited to, efforts focused on coastal resources or issues, improvements in intergovernmental coordination, targeted research or studies, the development of local ordinances, and expanded education and outreach efforts.

Local governments interested in applying for must complete and submit one copy of the grant application via email to their local DCM District Planner on or before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.

Final applicants will be notified in November whether their project has been selected for funding.

Local government will have to provide 25% of the total project cost. For Tier 1 counties and their municipalities, the match is at least 10%.

Annette is originally a Midwest gal, born and raised in Michigan, but with career stops in many surrounding states, the Pacific Northwest, and various parts of the southeast.
