The Juniper Road Two Fire is now 90% contained. The N.C. Forest Service said in a news release Monday that the incident management team that has been engaged in fire suppression efforts will begin demobilizing. The Pender County ranger, along with support from N.C. Forest Service District 8 personnel, will assume command of the fire. Crews will perform infrared drone flights to determine if any hot spots remain. Daily patrols of the fire area will continue until it has been declared cold. The wildfire started from a lightning strike on Aug. 2 and has burned more than 1,200 acres in Pender County in the Holly Shelter Game Lands.
