Pender County emergency officials are on the scene of a forest fire that began Tuesday in the Holly Shelter Game Lands. The fire has grown to over a thousand acres as of 2 p.m. Wednesday, but remains in Pender County. Officials say the fire is located within a forest area and no homes are threatened at this time. Pender County Emergency Management, the NC Forest Service, and Onslow County Emergency Services are coordinating a plan to contain the fire. Residents in the Holly Ridge and Sneads Ferry communities may notice smoke and ash.
