Strange creatures wash up along Cape Lookout National Seashore

Strange sea creatures have washed ashore along the North Carolina coastline prompting Cape Lookout National Seashore to ask the public for help identifying the object. During a recent sea turtle nesting patrol, the six-inch-long black objects with small white spikes were found adjacent to a log covered in gooseneck barnacles. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Seashore speculated that the creatures could be some type of sea cucumber, but said it couldn’t be matched to any images posted online. The N.C. Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs responded to the post, after consulting with an expert at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences saying the creatures are most likely bristle worms, which prey on gooseneck barnacles.
