Residents in and around Jacksonville may notice an increase in emergency vehicles and noise as a military training exercise takes place Wednesday. Marine Corps Air Station New River will partner with local emergency services to conduct Exercise Vigilant Response from 8 am to 4 pm. The annual, full-scale exercise provides realistic training opportunities to increase air station and community first responder readiness and recovery efforts during a mass casualty event. During the one-day training event, the local community can expect increased emergency services radio and communication traffic, on-base exercise announcements, and first responder vehicle movement traveling between New River and Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.
