Pitt County receives funding for streamflow rehabilitation project

Pitt County has received a $414,975 grant to remove storm-related debris from local streams. Phase 1 will focus on debris removal of Conetoe Creek, which is North of the Tar River in the Belvoir community. The project is slated to begin in July. The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved the grant acceptance on Monday, June 20th. The funding, from the North Carolina Division of Soil and Water Conservation, will go to Pitt County's Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program. According to a news release, the STRAP program requires all debris from streams or stream areas to be removed from the 100-year floodplain or processed outside the immediate stream area.
