Bill strips Cooper appointment power at Berger's home campus

NCDPS

A bill advancing in the North Carolina General Assembly would see Gov. Roy Cooper stripped of his power to appoint members of the community college trustee board in Senate leader Phil Berger’s home county. The measure approved Wednesday by the House affects the 13-member board at Rockingham Community College. The four board appointments that the Democratic governor now has would be parceled to Berger and Speaker Tim Moore, who are both Republicans. Legislative leaders have similar power at the community college in Moore's home county. The bill now goes to the Senate and wouldn't be subject to Cooper's veto because it's a local bill.
