The N.C. Department of Transportation has updated its plans for bridge work in Beaufort and Pitt Counties. According to a news release, the bridges on N.C. 99 over Pantego Creek and N.C. 92 over Bath Creek, both in Beaufort County, will close sometime after Labor Day in September for rehabilitation work that will extend the life of the bridge. The project will take about 2 to 3 months to finish and the contractor expects the bridges to reopen next year before Memorial Day. Beginning this summer, preservation work will take place in Pitt County on North Grimesland Bridge Road over the Tar River and in Beaufort County on N.C. 306 over Whitehurst Creek, and N.C. 306 over Baily Creek. Those bridges will remain open throughout the preservation work, which should be completed by next summer.
