Schedule interruptions are occurring on some North Carolina ferry routes due to COVID-19 and mechanical issues. The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division said in a news release Thursday that three of the ferries on the Pamlico Sound routes and one on the Hatteras route are not running due to mechanical issues. The affected routes include Cedar Island, Swan Quarter, and Hatteras. Maintenance crews are working to return all vessels to service as quickly as possible. Additionally, COVID-19 cases have affected departure schedules on the Hatteras route. The release siad that while most of the recent cases have recovered and returned to work, it’s possible that future cases could result in schedule interruptions.
