Several school districts in Eastern North Carolina will receive a portion of $400 million from new state lottery-funded grant awards for school construction, renovation projects, and other capital improvements. Washington County Schools will receive $40 million to build a new PK-12 grade school after the largest school in the county was closed last year due to air quality concerns.  The Public Schools of Robeson County will receive $25 million for a new Career and Technical Education Center for high schoolers. Wayne County Schools will receive about $9 million for the construction of the new Fremont Elementary School. Projects at Carteret County Public Schools and Tyrrell County Schools will also receive funding.
