ECU and Vidant Health combining to form ECU Health in May 2022

Vidant Health and East Carolina University are combining to form ECU Health, which is launching in May. PRE’s Meredith Radford reports that officials unveiled a new logo for the combined system Thursday.

ECU Health is the new regional health system in Eastern North Carolina that is comprised of more than 13,000 health care workers. Rebranding the 9 hospitals and over 100 practice sites of Vidant Health is expected to take several months. At a Thursday press conference, Vidant CEO and dean of the Brody School of Medicine Dr. Michael Waldrum says rebranding is a multi-million dollar investment, but the new brand also allows the system to be more competitive in hiring.

“That’s a national market that we compete for professionals in. Coming together with this important brand allows us to compete and recruit and retain people in a much different way than we’ve had in the past.”

Some of the hospitals, with new names, include ECU Health Medical Center, ECU Health Beaufort Hospital, and ECU Health Duplin Hospital. According to a news release, other Vidant medical groups’ and ECU physicians’ namings will be shared at a later date.

ECU and Vidant are financial supporters of PRE.
