Beginning Monday, Carteret County will temporarily close the public beach access on Radio Island for a dredging project. Over 35,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged from East Taylor’s Creek and placed on the southeast side of Radio Island, which has experienced significant beach erosion due to frequent storm events. Once the project is complete, the restoration of the shoreline will protect Radio Island from further damage while improving beach access for residents and tourists. According to a news release, the project is expected to be complete with full access restored by mid to late May.
