A cold front that moved through the area on Saturday brought severe storms and damaging winds and caused numerous downed trees and power lines across the region. According to information from the National Weather Service, wind gusts of around 40-60 mph were recorded across much of eastern North Carolina. The highest wind gust of 86 miles per hour was measured along the Outer Banks in the village of Waves. In Onslow County, a tree fell on a mobile home in Piney Green, and trees and power lines were down across southern portions of Onslow. The 911 call center in Craven County reported that a tree fell over a house. A building was blown apart in Duplin County where winds were estimated to be higher than 60 mph.
