Craven County Schools said Tuesday they will make masks optional for students and staff effective February 21st. According to a news release, the Board of Education voted unanimously during a work session to make face coverings optional, however, masks will still be required on school buses. The system said in the release that it will focus on strategies outlined in the state’s updated StrongSchools NC Public Health Toolkit, which include vaccinations and boosters, testing, no longer recommending individual contact tracing in schools, and no longer recommending students and staff stay home from school following a COVID exposure unless they test positive or have symptoms. Craven County Schools offers free, onsite COVID-19 testing at 23 school sites.
