Five local organizations received training on addressing trauma and toxic stress in their communities. These organizations, in Rocky Mount, Tarboro and Stantonsburg, completed the Resilient Leaders Initiative, a nine-month program developed by Rural Opportunity Institute.

According to a news release, the initiative seeks to support agencies and organizations to design and pilot innovative practices that address trauma and toxic stress. The Resilient Leaders Initiative is the first social accelerator program in the country rooted in a rural community and focused on trauma-informed practice.

The Rural Opportunity Institute works in Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties to help create spaces that support healing from trauma.

The organizations who completed this training include:

  • Word Tabernacle Church & The Impact Center Preschool in Rocky Mount
  • The REACH Center in Rocky Mount
  • HOPE Program in Tarboro
  • Edgecombe County Courthouse & Greater is Coming Ministries in Tarboro
  • Speight Middle School in Stantonsburg.
