Mourning ABC's Cancelled 'Neighborhood'

Commentator James Poniewozik is disappointed that ABC has cancelled plans for a new reality show, Welcome to the Neighborhood. Here's the premise: Three white families who live in a cul-de-sac in an Austin suburb get to pick the family that will move into the neighborhood.

The families competing to win were in various minority groups -- a black family; an immigrant family; a gay couple with a child. Several groups complained the show was discriminatory and ABC withdrew the show, even though they had been promoting it heavily. He is a staff writer for Time magazine.
