A crazy quilt on display at the Columbia Cultural Museum in Columbia, NC.

Almost everyone has a story about a quilt passed down to them. This crazy quilt on display at the Columbia Cultural Museum in Columbia, N.C., features intricate embroidery and an eclectic use of fabrics. Popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s, crazy quilts are resourceful and known for their abstract — or 'crazy' — designs. Helen Galligan, hostess at the museum, shares the story.

Ryan is an Arkansas native and podcast junkie. He was first introduced to public radio during an internship with his hometown NPR station, KUAF. Ryan is a graduate of Tufts University in Somerville, Mass., where he studied political science and led the Tufts Daily, the nation’s smallest independent daily college newspaper. In his spare time, Ryan likes to embroider, attend musicals, and spend time with his fiancée.
