Trees Down, Power Outages, And Minor Flooding In Craven County

City of New Bern - Facebook

Sustained winds of about 30-40 miles per hour, and gusts up to 60 miles per hour across Craven County toppled numerous trees on to roads and power lines.  About 20,000 customers are currently without electricity in Craven County.  Most of the damage occurred in the northern and western part of the county, including the towns of Cove City, Dover, Fort Barnwell, and Vanceboro.

“We’ve had a few minor reports like trees have hit the roof, no reports of heavy damage, just minor type damage,” said Ira Whitford, the Assistant Director of Craven County Emergency Services. “After daylight, we might have more when people can get out and observe what they really have.”

Whitford said there was one report of a radar-detected tornado, but no damage has been reported. Some minor flooding occurred in downtown New Bern around Union Point.
