Significant flooding is occurring in the Tar River basin around Rocky Mount and Nashville. Even as river levels have started to fall, dangerous conditions will continue as many roads remain flooded and closed.
“Many roads remain flooded and closed and first responders are still rescuing people from flooded cars and homes,” said North Carolina Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry at a briefing on Thursday.
More than 40 Nash County residents were evacuated Wednesday afternoon. Sprayberry said as many as 12,000 power outages were reported. The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers in Eastern North Carolina.
