There are at least 95 fires burning in Washington state and Idaho. In central Washington, nearly a thousand people remain under mandatory evacuations near the town of Chelan, where several lightning-sparked wildfires have destroyed some 75 buildings and threaten more.

National Guard troops have been helping dig fire lines as helicopters drop water. This part of the state is famous for its apples. And just as the harvest is about to start, one of the world’s largest apple-packing co-ops has fallen to the flames. Anna King from Here & Now contributor Northwest News Network reports.
