Today is Aaron Neville's 72nd birthday. And he has a new album out called My True Story and is a collection of doo-wop songs from his childhood in New Orleans. And, best of all, he was on Morning Edition today.
The longtime R&B artist talked to Morning Edition Host Renee Montagne about the influence that doo-wop sound has had on his entire career, performing with his brothers and also solo. On this new album, he stays true to the original style of the songs and tells Montagne that he didn't need to spend a lot of time revisiting the originals. They've been in his head all along.
We wish you could hear the unexpected show we got from Neville as he sang to himself in our lobby, but this photo of him loving NPR will have to do.
