Onslow County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at their next meeting to consider an economic development project that will provide at least 100 new jobs above the county’s median wage. PRE’s Meredith Radford has more.

If approved, the county would have an agreement with Trask Land Company, Incorporated to construct a 50,000 square foot medical office building and three other retail buildings at the Burton Industrial Park, which lies between Richlands and Jacksonville.

At the April 18 meeting, the commissioners will consider economic development incentives that would equal the cost of the land to be purchased from the county if the deal goes through. The buildings are estimated to cost over $13 million to construct. The commissioners will also consider selling two tracts of land of about 16 acres total at Burton Park for close to $1 million.

Public comment will be allowed during the 6 p.m. meeting before the commissioners vote on the project.
