The North Carolina Coastal Federation received more than $185,000 to construct a living shoreline in Bogue Sound. According to a news release, a grant from the Environmental Enhancement Program administered by the N.C. Attorney General, will fund 850 linear feet of living shoreline that will help restore over a half acre of salt marsh. The project will be built at the 76-acre property purchased by the federation and Carteret County for a new nature park, boat ramp, and event center. Living shorelines are an environmentally friendly approach to stabilize shorelines, while reducing erosion, improving water quality, and creating habitat.
