New Bern Parks and Recreation is seeking comments on how to develop 55 acres of land in the city.
The public input meeting will give residents the opportunity to review plans and share their ideas on what types of amenities and programs to include in the Marietta Park Master Plan. The donated land, along South Glenburnie Road, completes a contiguous stretch of land and lakes totaling 880 acres acquired by the city last September. Director of Parks and Recreation Foster Hughes says the vision for the park includes multi-recreational and cultural opportunities, and an outdoor amphitheater capable of hosting various entertainment and performances.
“The park is going to be so big and the goal is for this to be a regional draw. So we’d really like to see some things at this park that are currently not duplicated at any of our other parks in New Bern.”
The drop-in style meeting will be held today 10am – 7pm in the center court at the New Bern Mall. Hughes says public comments will go before the Board of Aldermen by March. After funding is secure, the City could break ground on the park in spring 2019. Residents may also submit public comments and fill out a survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/martin_marietta_park
