Tropical Cyclone 10 is currently off the coast of North Carolina and moving northeast at 17 mph. The storm will increase in speed over as it moves away from our area. Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph with higher gusts.
The disturbance is not expected to change much in strength through today and the chances for the system to become a tropical cyclone appear to be decreasing. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Carteret, Mainland Dare, Mainland Hyde, Outer Banks Dare, Outer Banks Hyde and Tyrrell counties. The National Weather Service has cancelled the Tropical Storm Warning for Beaufort, Craven, Jones, Pamlico, Washington and Onslow counties.
Potential impacts from the main wind event are now unfolding. Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and heavy rainfall now mainly affect northeastern areas and the Outer Banks. Minor damage to weak structures, downed trees and power lines are possible with this storm. Low spots could fill and overflow flooding some roads, yards and threatening buildings.
