Cape Lookout’s Park Rangers came together at the end of November to plant 40,000 young plants of American Beach Grass at the Great Island Cabin Camp on South Core Banks.
Officials say their effort was part of a project by the Resource Management team to stabilize the dunes in front of the cabin camp.
American Beach Grass, is a native grass to eastern North America and is commonly found on coastal sand dunes along the Atlantic Ocean from North Carolina northward.
Over the four days of the project, the rangers covered about 20,000 square feet with the "plugs" of young plants.
