Police in Raleigh have released more information about last week's mass shooting.
The biggest questions remain unanswered. The police report does not give any information as to how the 15-year-old shooter got the weapons. And the report adds that it still does not have a collective motive for the shooting that left five dead and two injured.
Police responded to the scene at about 5:15 p.m last Thursday. A man-hunt ensued for hours that ended with the arrest of Austin Thompson nearly two miles from where the shooting began.
He was found with a shotgun, a handgun, and a large hunting knife. He suffered a single gunshot wound and remains hospitalized.
Selective Enforcement Unit officers arrested him after he suffered a gunshot wound.
The first victim was Thompson's older brother, James, who was both stabbed and shot.
Earlier this week, the brothers' parents released a statement saying they are, “Overcome with grief for the innocent lives lost.”
The report goes on to say that the victims were likely random and had no apparent connection to the shooter except that they lived in the same east Raleigh neighborhood.
Funeral services for Raleigh police officer Gabriel Torres, who was killed in the mass shooting, have been scheduled for this weekend.
Torres was on the job for 18 months. Before that, he served as a U.S. Marine at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.
The other victims in the shooting included Nicole Connors, 52; Susan Karnatz, 49; Mary Marshall, 34; and 16-year-old James Thompson. A woman and a second Raleigh police officer also were wounded.
