The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is updating its red wolf recovery program for the first time in over 30 years.
Red wolves are an endangered species. Around 20 are estimated to be in the wild - all on the Albemarle-Pamlico peninsula in North Carolina.
The draft plan outlines several goals, including establishing new, wild populations and reducing human caused wolf deaths.
Perrin De Jong is a staff attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, a non-profit environmental organization. He said the plan is heading in the right direction, but needs more detailed information.
"So that's what we're interested in doing is drilling down to the specifics," he said, "Specific locations for new populations to be recovered."
A virtual informational meeting was held Wednesday night to discuss the plan.
