Israel’s ground invasion began late Thursday in an attempt to destroy Hamas tunnels and rockets, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli soldiers have since clashed with Palestinian fighters, the first time ground forces have clashed in five years.

NPR’s Daniel Estrin joins Here & Now’s Meghna Chakrabarti from Israel. He’s been reporting from the southern border, talking to both the military and citizens about the ground offensive.
