The Craven County Board of Commissioners will issue letters of support for three North Carolina Broadband Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology, or GREAT, Grant applications.
The unanimous decision was made at a specially called meeting Monday and included the potential to match grants up to a maximum of $900,000 for the three projects .
The GREAT Grant is a state program funded with federal money for private sector broadband providers to facilitate broadband service to areas of the state that are underserved. There is a maximum of two proposals that may be approved per county, and no guarantees that proposals will be funded, or at what level due to expected statewide interest.
