Professional baseball returns to Kinston next year. George Olsen has more.
The Texas Rangers have announced they’ll move their Class-A California minor league team to Kinston to play at Grainger Stadium in 2017. The Texas Rangers will own a controlling interest in the as-yet unnamed Kinston team with Cam McRae a limited partner in the group. McRae was the former majority owner of the Kinston Indians team which left after the 2011 baseball season. The Rangers plan a multi-year renovation at Grainger Stadium, with updated clubhouses, weight rooms and concession stands expected to be ready in 2017. The team will play in the Carolina League which will expand from 8-to-10 teams. Fayetteville is rumored to be the other Carolina League addition. I’m George Olsen.
