The Pitt County Health Department said Friday that an employee has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual began exhibiting symptoms on Sunday and is currently at home in self-isolation. According to a news release, the staff member had worked at a COVID-19 testing site at the Winterville Community Fire Department two days before the onset of symptoms. Other staff members, who had come in contact with the employee, have been tested and are in self-quarantine, pending results. Although the employee interacted with the public at this event, the health department said the risk of transmission is very low.
