The $10,000 grant, from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will help New Bern protect historic areas of the city as well as reduce flooding vulnerability during severe weather events and help improve long-term recovery. Hurricane Florence caused 100 million dollars in damages to commercial and residential structures in city limits. According to a press release, development of the flood resiliency plan is estimated to cost about $90,000. The National Trust has awarded the city of New Bern more than $15 million since 2003.
