Many Eastern NC residents in COVID-19 isolation can get food assistance through NCDHHS program

NC Department of Health and Human Services

The State Department of Health and Human Services and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina are providing food assistance to people affected by COVID-19. PRE’s Meredith Radford has more.

The COVID-19 Support Services Program is continuing to help those who face food insecurity because of needing to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19 and now to North Carolinians who are at high risk for severe illness because of COVID-19. There are 34 counties where food assistance is available, including: Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt and Wayne.

According to a news release, nearly 600,000 people face hunger in the 34 counties served by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC. For eligibility requirements, if you need help beyond food assistance or do not live in one of the 34 counties, visit the NCDHHS website. For Public Radio East, I’m Meredith Radford.
