ENC Communities Declare States of Emergency And Issue Evacuations

Communities across Eastern North Carolina are preparing for Hurricane Dorian.  

On Tuesday, Governor Roy Cooper issued a mandatory state evacuation order for vulnerable coastal areas effective at 8 am on Wednesday, September 4.  The evacuation order applies to barrier islands along the entire coast, from the Virginia line to the South Carolina line.

A State of Emergency will take effect in Lenoir County, North Carolina at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 4.  No curfews or mandatory evacuations are in effect at this time. 

Craven County officials have issued a voluntary evacuation order for residents living in Zone A as of 2pm Wednesday, September 4th. Residents in Craven County can locate their assigned evacuation zone by visitinghttp://bit.ly/cravenKYZ.  Evacuees who need transportation to the shelters should call the Craven County Emergency Operations Center at (252) 636-6608.

Pitt County issued a Declaration of a State of Emergency for all unincorporated areas of Pitt County, effective 5:00pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.  No evacuation orders or curfews have been mandated at this time.

Carteret County issued a mandatory evacuation for Wednesday September 4, 2019 at noon from North River to South River and Down East Communities from East Carteret Corner. Also included in the evacuation are any County residents who live in manufactured homes such as park models, manufactured homes or recreational vehicles. Bogue Banks has issued a mandatory evacuation for Wednesday September 4, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. Residents should be in a safe place by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday September 5, 2019.

Washington County has declared a state of emergency for areas within the county's jurisdiction and municpalities of Plymouth, Roper, and Creswell.  The county issued a voluntary evacuation for all residents located within a low lying area and residents of mobile homes.

The City of Jacksonville has declared a state of emergency.  The citizen phone bank will open Wednesday morning to help residents.  The number is 910-938-5200.

Onslow County has issued a voluntary evacuation ahead of the storm.  In a news release, the county said it will open shelters at 7 am Thursday at Swansboro High, Dixon Middle, Richlands High, and Jacksonville Commons.  

The Town of Beaufort is under a state of emergency as of Monday at 3 pm.  The town has issued a mandatory evacuation beginning at 3 pm Tuesday. 

The City of Havelock declared a state of emergency Tuesday.  No curfew has been imposed at this time. 

The City of New Bern declared a state of Emergency on Monday saying in a news release they are checking supplies and mobilizing their emergency operations center. 

On Monday morning, the Hyde County Board of Commissioners enacted a State of Emergency, urging individuals to remain vigilant and review their household hurricane and evacuation plans. 

On Sunday, Surf City declared a state of emergency.  According to a news release, town staff are securing items and getting equipment ready that will be used during this storm event.  The town may begin closing public beach accesses on Tuesday.
