East Carolina University’s chancellor sent a memo out Monday stating that some employees will be required to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8. PRE’s Meredith Radford has more.
Chancellor Philip Rogers said in the memo that the mandate applies to all employees who are working on or in connection with a federal contract or who work in the same location as employees working on a federal contract. ECU receives over $8 million in federal contract funding to support research, educational programs and other initiatives.
The memo referenced President Biden’s Executive Order 14042 and guidance issued by the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force that requires COVID-19 vaccination for employees of federal contractors. The chancellor’s office recommends that employees get the final dose of their vaccine series by Nov. 24 to be fully vaccinated by the deadline.
Employees can seek an exemption due to medical disability or a sincerely held religious belief. The memo also said more employees could be affected by this mandate as the chancellor’s office gets federal guidance. For Public Radio East, I’m Meredith Radford.
