More information about the work histories of North Carolina state and local government employees would be subject to public disclosure in legislation back in the Senate. The chamber’s judiciary committee voted Wednesday for the measure. It would provide short explanations about why a worker has been demoted, dismissed, transferred of suspended. Currently law only requires such information for a promotion. Changes have been made to prevent health items or unsubstantiated allegations in those descriptions. The North Carolina Press Association supports the measure, while the State Employees Association of North Carolina remains opposed. The bill next goes to another committee.
