Hi! I'm Brandon Mitchell, a rising senior at UNC Charlotte pursuing a career in audio journalism. Before this internship, I started my university's student podcast network and managed six shows. I want to use my experience to tell other people's stories in a creative and engaging way. I'm excited to work with Public Radio East this summer to expand my skillset and report on topics that matter.



As the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread, Onslow County’s current COVID-19 case count has risen to 19,619. With over 400 new cases in the past week and a total death count of 164, county officials are urging more people to get vaccinated.


The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries is asking local anglers to donate their fish carcasses for science. 


Coastal North Carolina is home to over 130,000 acres of submerged aquatic vegetation.  Some researchers say the coast might be in danger of losing up to half of that over the next decade. A decline in seagrass habitat affects more than the environment.   It also has lasting economic impacts, according to a new study.
