INTRO – Some New Bern area travelers may hit a detour starting Tuesday. George Olsen has more.
A 59-year-old bridge over Brices Creek on County Line Road south of New Bern is considered by the state Department of Transportation to be functionally obsolete… specifically its lane width is not up to current standards. Work starts Tuesday (Sept. 3) to replace the bridge, meaning those who travel that way will face a signed detour until the bridge work is finished. S.T. Wooten of Wilson received the $797,000 contract to replace the bridge. Work is expected to be finished by December 1. I’m George Olsen.
