Did you know, North Carolina's Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs right through New Bern? Carolina Nature Coalition is offering you a chance to walk the New Bern portion of the trail. Jim Grode*, Trail Resource Manager for Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and Michael Schachter, President of CNC, will guide you from the spectacular vista at Lawson Creek Park, to Leander Morgan Park (named for the 1st and only Black Mayor of New Bern), followed by the panorama of Palace Point Common, then on to the cool comfort of the NC History Center where you can linger to recharge. From the Center you can choose to follow the trail further to Union Point Park, or retrace your steps to meet up with your tansports where the walk began - Lawson Creek Park. Total walk time - Approximately 1 hour. Bottled water will be provided. Carolina Nature Coalition invites you to join us on the MST New Bern walk, Saturday, August 20th @ 9:15 AM*(pronounced Grodee)
Come enjoy a day outside with the Beekeepers of the Neuse as we celebrate National Honey Bee Day. The whole family will enjoy learning about the mighty honey bee. There will be kids crafts, beeswax candle dipping, gardening information and a live observation hive where you can watch the bees working and search for the queen. Learn about the bees’ life cycle and see honey extracted. Enjoy antique farm equipment and food vendors. Local raw honey will be available for purchase to support the efforts of Beekeepers of the Neuse. Baxter’s Bees will be selling health and beauty items based on products from the hive.Mark your calendar for this event and be amazed by the importance of the honey bee! Beekeepers of the Neuse is a non-profit honey bee club promoting knowledge and education of the honey bee. Beekeepers of the Neuse is the Wayne Chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association.
Stuff the Bus will be held on August 20, 2022, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Staples in New Bern, 3230 Dr. MLK, Jr., Blvd. Official advance drop-off locations and a shopping list are listed on the PIE website at https://cravenpartners.com/. Each school’s specific list is on its website. Help us get those much-needed school supplies into the hands of our students who have been identified as in need. If you know a child in need, contact the child's principal and/or school counselor for supply distribution.

Join us for our 1-Day Virtual Music and Arts Workshop!
Students will learn from professional musicians music education and appreciation regarding the history of this unique woodwind. The instrument is a handheld free-reed similar to a pump organ or harmonica which also features a musical keyboard on top, and is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece that fits into a hole on the side of the instrument. Melodicas are small, lightweight, portable and many are designed for children to play!
The SUAH African Dance Theater will present a West African dance performance and workshop for folks to learn traditional dances. Children from the Boys & Girls Club of Coastal Plain will be part of the performance and workshop. This event is hosted by Arts to End Genocide (ATEG) in partnership with the B&GCCP and Faith Connection to benefit ATEG's programs focused on children living in the Faladje IDP Camp in Bamako, Mali, West Africa. These programs include medical care, food distribution, and a Women's Skills Training Program.

The League of Women Voters of Carteret County would like to continue honoring women of high standards who contribute to our community through their work. This year we need your help in selecting women from different categories to be Women of Excellence in Carteret County. Specifically, women who have gone above and beyond in their service to save lives, improve quality of living in Carteret County and provide innovation and inspiration for others. Nominees will be announced and recognized at our annual Women’s Equality Day reception to be held at Promise Land Market on Thursday, August 25th from 5:00-6:30 pm.
