Recent rainfalls have pulled some eastern North Carolina counties out of moderate drought.
Thursday morning’s Drought Monitor update shows a slight reduction in the drought status for Pamlico, Carteret, eastern Beaufort, southern Craven, eastern Jones, and eastern Onslow counties.
They were downgraded from “moderate” to “abnormally dry” status. Most other areas in ENC remain in moderate drought status.
The U.S. Drought Monitor is updated each Thursday to show the location and intensity of drought across the country. It uses a five-category system, from abnormally dry to exceptional drought.
