Officials with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office say Corey Smith was in the booking area after being cuffed when he bolted from the Maple Detention Center.

Smith is 22, lives in Elizabeth City and was being arrested after he failed to appear in court on a felony larceny charge.

He was last seen in jeans and a brown jacket, still wearing the handcuffs.

Deputies have used drones and help from a Coast Guard helicopter to try to find him.
