Officials said a 19-year-old and 17-year-old were stabbed and investigators believe they were assaulted by a group of six to 10 men.

Two people were stabbed at the Pitt County Fair Saturday night.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office said that although fair organizers contracted with a private security firm for the event this year, Sheriff Paula Dance placed some off-duty deputies near the fairground in case of an emergency and three of them responded within two minutes of the initial call.

Officials said a 19-year-old and 17-year-old were stabbed and investigators believe they were assaulted by a group of six to 10 men.

Both were hospitalized and their conditions have not been released.

Last year, the fair shut down after several fights at the fairgrounds, including one involving a teenager who had a loaded gun.
