An eastern North Carolina seaside community has received a grant to improve their wastewater facilities, and the mayor said that will help the town withstand climate change and reduce its impact on the coastal environment.
The Town of Beaufort has been chosen to receive a Pre-Construction Planning Grant from the State Water Infrastructure Authority in the amount of $225,000 for wastewater pump station improvements.
Beaufort Mayor Sharon Harker said it’s the first milestone in a project that includes putting together a cost estimate and schedule by November 1.
“This grant will assist in building resilient infrastructure to withstand extreme climate changes to reduce the impact on our coastal environment for generations to come,” she said.
