A water quality swimming advisory has been issued for a site in Morehead City. Test results collected at the public access to Bogue Sound at Sunset Drive found bacterial levels in the water exceeded state and federal water quality standards. According to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, the type of bacteria detected is not known to cause illness but may indicate the presence of other disease-carrying organisms. A sign posted at the access point advises people not to swim within 200 feet of the sign. An advisory issued earlier this month at the public access at 16th street in Morehead City remains in effect.
